KARNAL: Trilochan Singh the Karnal city Congress chief and Parveen Kumar, a Congress activist, on Wednesday made a bid to self-immolate at the Committee Chowk in protest against the denial by Sonia Gandhi to accept prime ministership of the country.
Immolation effort was also made against the outbursts of Sushma Swaraj and Uma Bharati against Sonia Gandhi.
1x1 polls
About 200 Congress workers were present at the scene when both Congress leaders sprinkled kerosene oil on their bodies and tried to ignite them.
However, before they could actually do it Congress activists overpowered them. During this entire melodrama policemen remained standing at a distance and quietly watched it without interfering. Congressmen raised slogans against Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Uma Bharati and Sushma Swaraj.
Later Congressmen staged an hour-long protest led by Bimla Devi, mother of Arvind Sharma, the newly elected MP from Karnal. Both Trilochan Singh and Parveen Sharma wearing Kerosene drenched clothes also sat on dharna. Congress protesters said that they could not accept any other leaders as the Prime Minister of the country except Sonia Gandhi.
